Ralph M. Troy—Retired Ansonia Police Sgt.

Retired Ansonia Police Sergeant Ralph M. Troy, 74, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on July 24, 2011, at Griffin Hospital.

His loving family and best friend Paul Bull” Griffin were by his side. He was the devoted husband of Ellen Morse Troy.

Mr. Troy was born in Derby on Sept. 7, 1936, son of the late Ralph Troy and Emily Paradisi Troy Chrostowski. 

He attended the former Lincoln School and graduated from Ansonia High School in 1954. 

Mr. Troy later attended the University of New Haven and graduated in 1978 with a Degree in Criminal Justice Administration. 

He served in the Connecticut Army National Guard Company C” 1st Battalion, 102nd Infantry, from December 1958 to November 1967, and was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant (E‑6).

He began his career in November of 1967 as a supernumerary police officer with the Ansonia Police Department, and became a regular, full-time police officer on May 24, 1968, after being appointed by former Mayor Lester Hale. 

He was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 1988 by former Mayor Thomas Clifford and retired from the department in 1995 after 28 years of service. Ralph was a member of the Police Association of Connecticut (PAC) and an alumnus of University of New Haven 78.

In addition to his wife Ellen, he is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Troy Zenit and her husband Thomas of Ansonia, a brother, Gerald A. Troy and his wife Kathleen of NH, a cherished grandson, Thomas Troy Zenit of Ansonia, a special cousin, Cynthia Cratty and her husband Philip of Ansonia, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, fellow police officers, friends, and loyal canine companion, Toby.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Thursday July 28, 2011, at 10 a.m. (Please Meet Directly) at the Church of the Assumption in Ansonia for a Mass of Christian Burial. 

Interment with military honors will follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery in Derby. 

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday July 27, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSICEKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia.
