On Sunday, August 5 2018, Rev. Msgr. John David Regan Entered Into Eternal Rest at home in Southbury.
He was born in Derby on July 16, 1927, son of the late John and Genevieve Smith Regan of Ansonia.
Msgr. attended Assumption School, Ansonia High School, St. Thomas Preparatory Seminary in Bloomfield (1945 – 1947) and the seminary of Christ the King, St. Boneventure in New York (1947 to 1953) where he served on the Board of Trustees. On May 14, 1953 Archbishop Henry J. O’Brien ordained Msgr. Regan. His first assignment as Parochial Vicar was at St. Francis Church in New Haven, then on to St. James Church in Manchester where he served as Principal of St. James School. Then on to the Immaculate Conception Church in Waterbury and St. Mary’s Church in Unionville. He was Pastor at St. Bernard’s Church in Sharon, St. Patrick’s Church in Collinsville and St. John of the Cross in Middlebury. After retirement, he served on weekends at St. Margaret’s Church in Madison, and St. Theresa’s Church in Woodbury. Msgr. attended Notre Dame University for theological updating courses in 1980. He served the Archdiocese of Hartford as Diocesan Consultor, as a member of the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, and Archdiocesan Restructuring Committee. He was appointed by Archbishop Cronin as Vicar to the Waterbury Vicariate in August 1998, receiving the title Monsignor in March 1999. He was appointed to the Priest Council in 2007 by Archbishop Mansel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 9 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of the Assumption in Ansonia. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery in Derby. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at church.
