Reverend Lyman Taylor, age 87, of Shelton, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, in the Griffin Hospital in Derby.
Rev. Taylor, affectionately known as “Bud”, was born in Volant, PA on July 10, 1925, son of the late Palmer and Bessie (Cogswell) Taylor, and has been a Shelton resident since 1990.
Rev. Taylor graduated from Westminster College and Drew Theological Seminary, and while serving as a short-term missionary in Korea (until the day after its invasion), married his beloved wife Marian E. Bundy Taylor in Seoul on June 24, 1950.
After several years in Korea and Japan, he and his wife returned to NY Conference pastorates for many years. He then served in Winsted, CT for six years before returning to East Branch , NY until 1990, when he and his wife moved to Wesley Heights.
He served as a part time minister of visitation at First Church in Stamford from 1990 to 2000.
In 2000 he formally retired to pursue his hobby as a composer and autoharp instructor.
He served as the president of the Winsted Area Ministerial Association and was a two time general coordinator of the CROP Hunger Walk.
Rev. Taylor also served on the boards of directors of the United Way of North Western CT, as well as Litchfield County Association for Retarded Citizens.
During his career, he also visited with many folks in hospitals and convalescent homes, often playing his autoharp.
He is the loving father of Lawrence R. Taylor and Sandra L. Taylor, and cherished grandfather of Jessica M. Taylor. He also leaves many other family members in the USA and other countries. He is predeceased by his two brothers David and Paul Taylor, and a sister, Esther Taylor.
The Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton has been entrusted with his arrangements.
Friends may greet his family on Sunday from 6 to 8 PM in the First United Methodist Church, 188 Rocky Rest Rd, Shelton.
