Reverend Ronald L. Genua, 78, entered into eternal rest on May 29, 2015, at Paradigm Health Care in Waterbury.
Father Genua was born in Waterbury on Aug. 28, 1936, son of the late Antonio and Mary Dellano Genua. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart H.S. in Waterbury, St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield and earned his degree in Theology from St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore, MD. He was ordained a Catholic Priest on May 27, 1965. His many appointments include St. Thomas in Goshen, St. Anthony in Bristol, Our Lady of Assumption in Woodbridge, St. Peter in Torrington, Co-Pastor at Sacred Heart in Waterbury, Asst. Pastor at St. Lucy in Waterbury, Asst. Pastor at Blessed Sacrament in Waterbury, Spiritual Director at Holy Cross H.S. in Waterbury, Pastor at St. Francis Xavier in New Milford, St. Thomas in Southington and Pastor at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia from June of 2000 until his retirement in 2005. He proudly and honorably served in the National Guard earning the rank of Lieutenant.
He is survived by sisters, Barbara Dowling (James) of Middlebury and Janice Genua of Poquoson, VA, devoted friend, Elaine Sojka-Williams (Jack) of Seymour, several cousins, parish families and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday June 3, 2015, at 11:00 am at Holy Rosary Church, 10 Father Salemi Drive in Ansonia, with the Most Rev. Leonard P. Blair, Archbishop of Hartford, as the Principal Celebrant, who will be joined by fellow bishops and priests of the Archdiocese. He will be buried with military honors in the Priest Lot in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday June 2, 2015, from 4:00 pm until 6:45 pm at the church where his body will lay in state, followed by a Parish Mass at 7:00 pm.
