Richard David Haig, age 84, of Shelton entered into rest on Thursday, February 20, 2025, in Hewitt Health and Rehab after battling Alzheimer’s. He is the devoted husband of 61 years to Susan Cotter Haig.
Richard was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 6, 1940, son of the late Francis and Katherine (Nix) Haig, and was a resident of Shelton for most of his life.
He graduated from Fordham University, where he met his future wife, and joined the Marine Officers Training Program. Richard was proud of his Marine years and displayed his strength of character and duty to his country by investing more than 30 years as a Defense Investigative Agent (DIS) and Superviser with the Department of Defense before his retirement.
He was a devoted father and was always involved in his children’s sports activities: timing at swim meets, cross-country and track meets, and coaching Little League Baseball and flag football. He was proud to have the first girl on his baseball and football teams in Shelton. He so enjoyed coaching kids that he continued long after his children aged out of his teams.
He and his wife traveled throughout Europe and the Caribbean, enjoying scuba diving in the warm waters, and he loved vacationing annually at the beach with his family.
He is survived by his daughter Christine Queen, her husband James, and their daughter Taylor, along with his son Daniel Haig, his wife Lynn, and their son Nicholas. He is also survived by his brother Stephen Haig, his wife Joan, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, February 26th at 12 Noon at St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton.
The Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton, is entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.riverviewfh.com.
