Richard Mestuzzi of Seymour, CT passed away peacefully at the Griffin Hospital on May 17, 2025 with his family by his side.
Born on October 15, 1950, Rick was the son of the late Frank and Mildred (Cooper) Mestuzzi. He was the beloved brother of Jeanne Reichelt and the late Frank Mestuzzi. Along with his sister, he leaves behind his brother-in-law Robert Reichelt who he lived like a brother and his sister-in-law Carole Mestuzzi.
Rick is survived by his nieces Kathleen Matthews (Randy), Karen Dayton (Kevin), Kristin Bernier (Paul), Liza Sandman (Scott), nephews Kevin Reichelt (Ellen), and Steven Mestuzzi (Trinita). He was fortunate to have shared his life with his great-nieces and great-nephews who brought him so much joy and happiness. He was predeceased by his brother Frank and nephew Scott Mestuzzi.
For many years Rick worked at the Shelton Laundry and retired from the Willows of Woodbridge. He was a previous member of the Ansonia Civil Defense. Rick was an active parishioner at the Church of the Assumption in Ansonia. He was a former Eucharistic Minister and he also enjoyed teaching religious education.
Rick was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #23 and rose to the ranks of the Fourth Degree serving as Grand Knight.
He was an avid Yankees and UCONN women’s basketball fan. Known for his quick wit and contagious smile, Rick had a way of making everyone feel special. He enjoyed the many times shared with his cherished friends and family.
Friends may call on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 4 pm to 7pm at the Bennett Funeral Home on 91 North Cliff Street, Ansonia. On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, friends and family are asked to meet directly at the Church of the Assumption for a mass of Christian burial beginning at 12 pm. Burial will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia, CT.
