Richard Pryor Kemp Sr., age 86, of Milford, entered eternal rest on August 29, 2024, at Milford Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. \
He was the beloved husband of sixty-four wonderful years to Barbara A. (Still) Kemp.
Rich was born in Derby, CT on April 8, 1938, son of the late Cameron Kemp and Bertha Zwolinski Kemp Bronson. He attended Seymour High School and later moved to Ansonia for many years. Rich dedicated thirty-three years to a successful career with United Parcel Service until his retirement in 2000.
An enthusiastic sports fan, Rich cheered for the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team and the Boston Red Sox. He was also a loyal supporter of Ansonia High School’s football and baseball programs. In his spare time, he delighted in gardening, fishing, traveling, going to Mohegan Sun Casino, getting his mail, and spending time with his family. He was also a member of the Ansonia Senior Center and proudly served for six years in the United States Army Reserves.
Richard will be remembered fondly for his dedication and support to his family, his love of sports, and his joyful approach to life’s simple pleasures.
In addition to his wife Barbara, he leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Richard P. Kemp Jr., and Robert F. Kemp (Toni) of Milford, daughters, Deborah A. Kuraczea of VA and Patricia M. Cardella of Orange, grandchildren, Richard Smith (Christie), Renee Fournier, Gary Menna Jr., Jessica Cardella (Mark), Alicia Valenti (Nicholas), Christopher Scrivines (Tracey), Daniel Scrivines (Alissa), and Amy Scrivines, great-grandchildren, Noah Scrivines, Angelina Scrivines, Geno Borrero, William Rodgers III, Jackson and Henry Smith, Skyler and Emma McCormack, and Derek Scrivines. Richard is also survived by a brother-in-law, James Crowley of Ansonia and sisters-in-law, Diana Mitchell, Debra Taylor (Randy) and Ella Newsome as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and grand pups.
He was predeceased by a brother, John J. Kemp, a sister, Jean Crowley and nieces, Kathy Confinante and Nancy Golino. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the chapel of SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Friday, September 6, 2024, a funeral service in celebration of Richard’s life will take place at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Rev. Jeffrey Gubbiotti officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia.
