Richard Weldon, 84, of Shelton, CT (formerly of Trumbull and Bridgeport), passed away on July 29, 2021. Born on April 26, 1934, in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of the late Bessie Weldon.
Richard grew up in the South End of Bridgeport, where he graduated from Bassick High School in 1952.
After high school, Richard went to work and eventually went back to school and graduated in 1957 from the New Haven State Teachers College (now known as Southern Connecticut State University) with an A.S. degree in Education. Later, in 1962, he graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a B.S. in Education, and, in 1974, he earned a Master of Arts degree in Education from New York University.
Richard received Connecticut State Education Department certifications to teach business, history, and social studies courses and taught them at Derby High School over a career that spanned over 30 years. In doing so, Richard had a positive influence on countless young people, and he cherished the various relationships he developed with them over the years.
Richard had an interest in interior design and, in his spare time, ran his interior design firm, Richard Weldon, Ltd. He also had an interest in real estate and held a real estate brokerage license for many years. Richard enjoyed cooking and traveling and, over his lifetime, was able to visit many countries, including Portugal, Iceland, Luxembourg, England, and Ireland, among others.
Richard is survived by many friends, relatives, and former students who remember him fondly and who will miss him going forward. A graveside service in Richard’s memory will be held at 5:30 p.m. ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 6 at St. Michael’s Cemetery, located at 2205 Stratford Ave., Stratford, CT 06615.
