Rita Ann Scermino

Rita Ann Scermino, age 73 of Seymour, entered peacefully into rest on January 11, 2025, with her devoted family by her side. Rita was born January 4, 1952, in Derby, daughter of the late Lawrence J. Dubey, Sr. and Lena (Visselli) Dubey. Rita was a remarkable woman whose strength, love, and laughter touched the lives of everyone around her, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, kindness, and joy.

Rita leaves her loving family including her companion of 37 years, Robert Magda, and her daughters: Patti Prodan and her husband Christopher of Shelton, and Carla Acucena and her companion Neal Benson of Dunstable, MA. She also leaves her siblings: Linda Potucek of Port St. John, FL, Gloria Dubey of North Haven, CT, Ann Marie Renaldi and her husband Frank of Seymour, CT, Lawrence J. Dubey, Jr. of AZ, and Robert Dubey of Jupiter, FL. She is survived by her grandchildren who brought endless joy: Samantha Prodan, Caleb, Brody, Liam, and Silas Acucena. She also had many beloved nieces and nephews.

Rita worked as a medical assistant at Griffin Faculty Physicians for over 35 years, where her compassion and dedication to her patients were unmatched. Her work wasn’t just a job to her — it was her passion.

Outside of her profession, Rita lived life with unbridled enthusiasm. She loved playing cards, visiting the casino, and scratching her favorite lottery tickets. She and Bob also enjoyed traveling to Florida to spend time with family and friends, creating countless cherished memories. Her love of fun was infectious; she cherished good wine, hearty laughter, and the thrill of a well-played joke. She brought light and happiness wherever she went, and her sense of humor was a gift to all who knew her.

Her spirit of resilience, generosity, and joy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She taught us all the true meaning of strength, love, and living life to the fullest.

A private ceremony will be held to honor Rita’s life. Interment will be at Mountain Meadows Cemetery. The Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour is entrusted with her arrangements. Please share a memory at www.hullfh.com
