Robert A. Verni

Robert A. Verni, 90, peacefully entered into eternal rest on March 30, 2017, at CT Hospice in Branford. He was the beloved husband of Theresa Panaroni Verni.

Mr. Verni was born in Derby on January 27, 1927, son of the late Gaetano and Hope Roscini Verni. He was employed at BF Goodrich for 28 years and later as a lab technician at Bayer Corp. in West Haven for 17 years, until his retirement. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the U.S. Army during WW II. Bob was a devoted communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and altar server at funerals for many years. He worked at the annual Italian Festival and was Past President of both the Catholic Men’s Club and St. Joseph Men’s Society. For his devotion to the church, he was the recipient of the St. Joseph Medal from the Archdiocese of Hartford. He was also a member of the Ansonia and Derby Senior Centers. Bob enjoyed traveling and especially spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife Theresa, he is survived by loving daughters, Deborah V. Ahern of Woodbridge and Karen Dempsey and her husband Jeffrey of Ansonia, a brother, Francis Verni of Hamden, cherished grandchildren, Erin Angelucci (Michael) and Kelly Halstead (Christopher) of Woodbridge, Ashley Alves (Christopher) of Cheshire and Thomas Dempsey of Ansonia, great-grandchildren, Finley and Arwyn Halstead, Calin and Teagan Angelucci and Danielle Alves as well as several nieces and nephews. His brother, Gaetano Verni, passed away hours before Bob, also at CT Hospice. 

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday April 4, 2017, from 4 – 7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Wednesday, his funeral will commence at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Interment with U.S. Army military honors will take place in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405 or through the funeral home.
