Robert Archer Rollinson

Robert Archer Rollinson, 95 died on February 17, 2021 at Griffin Hospital. He was born in Shelton on August 27, 1925 the son of Myra Ellen Archer and William Rollinson, Sr. Robert was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Ann Tomko Rollinson with whom he shared the same birthday.

He is survived by two daughters and their husbands Ellen Kolesk (Andrew) of Shelton and Gail DeMent (Phil) of Norwalk. 

He is also survived by two grandsons and their wives Jarrett Archer DeMent (Sarah) of Pennsylvania, Travis Ray DeMent (Jacqui) of Vermont, one granddaughter Sarah Kolesk of Shelton, and three great grandchildren Molly Claire DeMent of Pennsylvania, Charles Archer DeMent of Pennsylvania, Oscar Robert DeMent of Vermont and Elvia Ann DeMent of Vermont.

Robert was the youngest of nine children and was predeceased by his siblings: William, Herbert, and Arthur Rollinson and Myra Allan, Margaret Arms, Florence Robinson, Evelyn Wilson, and Edith McKane.

Robert (known as Archie), was an avid Boy Scout and troop leader and served his country as a corporal in the Marines during WWII on the islands of Espritu Santo and Guam. After the war, he became a teacher in North Troy, Vermont on the Canadian border, served as the principal of Shelburne School in Vermont, and retired as an English teacher from Wooster Jr. High School in Stratford. 

Robert fondly recalled working as a teenager at the former Apex Tool and Cutter Company on Canal Street in Shelton earning 30 cents an hour in the early 1940s. His work ethic was always admired and he in turn appreciated a strong work ethic in others.
