Robert E. Gard, age 88, beloved husband of Lillian Errico Gard and longtime Ansonia resident, passed away peacefully April 17.
He was born June 15, 1925 in Portland, ME., son of the late Frederick & Hazel Remick Gard.
Bob served in U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He worked as a supervisor at Pratt & Whitney, and later earned his degree to become a certified substance abuse counselor, working at Shirley Franks in New Haven and Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford.
Bob took great pleasure in helping others overcome their addictions. He was predeceased by his grandson Brian Laneuville. In addition to being remembered as a loving husband and father, he also will be fondly remembered for his love of birds, and his many bird houses. Not one bird or squirrel ever left Bob’s yard hungry.
In addition to his wife Lillian, he leaves to cherish his memory his son James (Margret) Gard of Middletown, his daughters, Faye (John) Grivalsky of Meriden & Mary Harnois of Wallingford, step son Charles (Lori) Grinsted of Ansonia, step daughters Diane (Michael) Taillon of Rowley, MA. & Nancy (Mike) Laneuville of Ansonia, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter and his beloved cat Shiloh.
Memorial services will be held on Friday April 25 at 5:00 p.m. at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia. Father Jeffrey Gubbiotti officiating. (www.jenkinskingfh.com) Burial will be private. Friends may call on Friday following the services until to 7:00 p.m.
