Robert H. Boran, age 74, a lifelong resident of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday evening, December 7, 2020, in the comfort of his home, with his loving family by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of 48 years to Marlene Hirschorn Boran.
Bob was born in Derby on October 9, 1946, son of the late John and Frances Panitz Boran. He graduated from Ansonia High School in 1964 and went on to Southern Connecticut State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1970 and a Master of Science Degree in 1972. Bob went on to teach at Willis School in Ansonia, CT before pursuing his passion for cars in 1976 with his brother Butch to form a partnership and open Boran Bros. Auto Body in Shelton, CT. The business successfully ran for 30 years, until their retirement in 2006.
Bob continued his love of learning and in 1989 he received another Master Degree in Computer & Information Science from the University of New Haven. Bob also always looked forward to Opening Day fishing weekend in Riverton, CT, where for over 40 years he enjoyed time with his brother and many close friends. A devoted communicant of St. Joseph Church in Ansonia, he served as a member of the Parish Council, an usher, and volunteer at monthly Bingo and the annual picnic.
He was a member and former officer of Polish Falcons Nest 36 and former member of the Ansonia Library Board and Ansonia Board of Apportionment and Taxation. Bob also founded and coached the Ansonia Angels girls fast pitch softball team and coached Ansonia Recreational girls’ basketball.
Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who always put the needs of others before his. As a father, he attended every game, ceremony, and event his daughters had and supported them in all endeavors. As a husband, he was devoted and loving always available to provide a helping hand, advice when asked, or a joke to lighten the mood. Bob enjoyed spending time with his grandkids who lovingly referred to him as Dziadzio. He also had the best times traveling with his wife and their best friend, Lorraine, to UCONN Women’s Basketball games, the casino, and several vacations.
In addition to his wife Marlene, he leaves to cherish his memory, loving daughters, Kimberly Rihel (Thomas) of Southington and Kelly Blanchard (Carl) of Milford, grandchildren, Hailey and Lucas Rihel and Ryder and Lennon Blanchard as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, John “Butch” Boran.
Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the family has chosen a private service at this time. A celebration of Bob’s life will be announced in the future when we can all safely gather. The SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia has been privileged with the arrangements. Contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to Connecticut Hospice Home Care.
