Robert J. Knott, 80, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 28, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving and adoring family. He is the husband to Angelina (Angie) (Nicoletti) Knott.
He was born in Derby on August 28, 1934, son of the late Robert J. and Charlotte (Donnovan) Knott. Bob is a lifelong Catholic man who prayed the Rosary every day, a graduate of the Assumption School class of 1948, and Pine High School in 1952. Bob is a proud communicant of the Church of the Assumption, Trustee and Advocate for the Knights of Columbus Council 23, was instrumental in forming a scholarship in honor of Rev. George Burnett and Rev. Robert Condron for students in the Assumption School, and he and Angie had been active in church activities, ministries and fundraisers all of their lives.
He was a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Army, a member and Jr. Vice Commander of the American Legion Post 50 and sold poppies throughout this area. A former member of the Derby Lodge of Elks Post 571 who honored him as Irishman of the Year in 1996, Bob was a member of the Zoning Board for the City of Ansonia and the longest Suburban Propane employee in the Delivery Department.
He is a proud husband of Angelina (Angie) Knott for the past 57 years, father to Robert (Donna) Knott of Ansonia, Patrick (Lisa) Knott of Seymour, grandfather to Joe, Bobby, Krystina, Ray, Nicole Lewis and Matt, and great-grandfather to Grace, Colby, and Jyden. He was predeceased by his sister, Charlotte Kaiser.
His funeral will leave on Monday, June 1, at 9:30 a.m. from the Bennett Funeral Home, 91 N. Cliff St., Ansonia, to the Church of the Assumption for a mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial with full military honors will be in Mt. St. Peters Cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Assumption Church in care of the funeral home.
