Ronald B. York

Ronald B. York, age 90, of Shelton, peacefully entered into rest on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Wesley Heights in Shelton.

He was the beloved husband of 52 years of the late Joyce R. (Robinson) York.

Ron was born in Mars Hill, ME on February 5, 1927, son of the late Walter Alonzo and Harriett Pearl (Brackett) York.

He lived in Shelton from 1953 to 1984, then moved to Zephyrhills, Fl for thirty years before returning to Shelton in 2014. Ron graduated from Higgins Classical Institute in 1945 and served his country with the US Army during WWII. He retired from Avco Lycoming in 1984.

He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America, and while living in Florida he received the Thomas E Weightman ABC Award from the District School Board of Pasco in recognition of his commitment to assisting children in need.

Ron loved to play all kinds of games and prided himself upon being an accomplished pool hustler, card shark, and shuffle board master. Ron and Joyce were the team to beat as they won several tournaments together. He had an overwhelming passion and determination to be the best. He also enjoyed traveling and saw most of the USA and parts of England. Ron had a gift for storytelling, and he never failed to amuse everyone with his colorful and descriptive tales, all of which were enhanced with his colloquial Maine accent. It was discovered that Ron was a direct descendent of an English immigrant, James York, who came to New England in 1635, and settled in what is now Stonington, CT. He loved his family and spoke often about how proud he was of his three sons and their families.

He is the beloved father of David York and his wife Donna, Royce York and his wife Randy, and Russell York and his wife Carol. He is the proud grandfather of Shane York, Patrick York, Diane Scofield, Royce York, and Nichole Kuna, and great-grandfather of Gabriel York Scofield, Julie Alice Scofield, and Ezekiel Judson York. In addition to his wife Joyce, he was predeceased by a grandson, David (Bubba) York, and two siblings, Robert York and Lois Grey. He also leaves his lifelong friends, Orrin and Irene, who were frequently partners in crime.

Funeral services are entrusted to the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. A private graveside service will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.

Contributions in Ron’s memory are requested to West Zephyrhills Elementary School, 37900 14th Ave, Zephyrhills, FL 33542.
