With deep sadness we announce the passing of beloved brother, cousin and father, Ronald Frank Smith at age 66, January 14, 1956 — August 20, 2022. Ron was born and raised in Derby, CT, and lived for the past 30 years in Largo, FL.
He was a passionate attorney with a vibrant law practice and was very active in the American Legion, serving as President of the AmVets Riders Club. An avid motorcycle enthusiast, Ron died suddenly in Holiday FL. Passing with him was the longtime love of his life, Brenda JeanAnn Volpe.
Ron graduated from Derby High School and then from the American Academy McAllister Institute. During his time in the Valley, he served on the Derby Police Force and was a dedicated member of the STORM Engine Co before moving to Florida and earning a Law degree from University of Miami. He loved his family and his dogs madly and advocated for justice throughout his life.
In FL, he leaves behind a son and grand-daughter, Ryan and Sutton Smith, an older brother, Arthur Smith and two Springer Spaniels, Lucy and Ricky. In CT, he leaves a younger sister and two nephews, Tracey DeLibero and her sons, Arthur and Frank Jr. He was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Annamay “Dollie” Smith, of Derby CT.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all those who have offered their condolences. A Celebration of his Life with family and friends will be held in Florida, in October. The family will have a memorial, in CT, to honor his memory on September 24th, location TBD. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ansonia Animal Shelter in Ron’s name
