Ronald Gene Schlegel passed away on January 7, 2025 at age 88. He is the beloved husband of 37 years to Charlotte Mills Schlegel. Ron was a lifelong resident of Shelton, Connecticut, born on September 3, 1936, to Walter and Dorothy Lyon Schlegel.
He graduated from Shelton High School, completed a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Connecticut, a Masters from the University of New Haven, and a Masters in Engineering Dynamics from Yale University.
He had a long and rewarding career as an engineering manager at Sikorsky Aircraft for 43 years. He was an active member of the Sikorsky Ski Club and Sikorsky Archives.
He was a former member of Salem Lutheran Church choir and a recent member of Huntington Congregational Church.
Ron was an accomplished saxophone player and published author of a poetry book. He enjoyed skiing, traveling, tennis, music & reading. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially being a beloved “Grampy” to his 6 grandchildren.
In addition to wife Charotte, he is also surived by his son Peter Schlegel, daughters Kristen (Mike) Wampold and Allison Bieri, and his grandchildren: Hannah, Emily, Caroline, and William Haaijer, and Benjamin and Grace Bieri. He was predeceased by his son, Kenneth Schlegel, and his brothers, Walter and Ed Schlegel.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
