Rosario J. Cinquemani, 88, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on January 29, 2013, at CT Hospice in Branford.
He was the beloved husband of 50 years to the late Jennie DiClementi Cinquemani.
Mr. Cinquemani was born in Ansonia on June 12, 1924, son of the late Gaetano and Josephine Marchese Cinquemani.
A lifelong resident of Ansonia, he was employed as a jitney operator at the former Pratt & Whitney in North Haven for 30 years until his retirement.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, he honorably served during World War II in the Second Infantry Division.
During his military career, he participated in the landing on Omaha Beach in Normandy on his 20th birthday, June 12, 1944.
He was a member of the American Legion in Ansonia, Derby Community Center, and all Valley Senior Centers, where he sang in their chorus’s.
Roy enjoyed gardening, photography, swimming, hunting, fishing, UConn basketball and the Ansonia Chargers.
In 1994, he and his wife traveled to France for the 50th anniversary of D‑Day. He later traveled to London and Le Havre, France in 1999 for the 55th anniversary of the Battle of
the Bulge.
There he visited the many French towns where he fought the Germans. In 2004, he attended the 60th anniversary of World War II in Normandy, France.
He loved growing dahlias and was a member of the CT Dahlia Society. He won many prize ribbons for his dinner plate dahlias.
He is survived by a loving son, Thomas P. Cinquemani Sr. (Ann) of Ansonia, two loving daughters, Linda A. Guardiano (Vincent) of Derby and Carol A. Breda of Hamden, eight grandchildren, Joseph, Laura, and James Guardiano, Thomas and Jennie Cinquemani, and Kristin, Alyssa, and Timothy Breda, a very dear sister, Josephine Collicelli of Ansonia, special friend, Angie Bolio, and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting will be held on Tuesday February 5, 2013, from 8:00 am until 9:40 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia.
At 9:40 am, his funeral will process to the Church of the Assumption in Ansonia for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 am. Entombment with U.S. Army military honors will follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Mausoleum in Derby.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to CT Hospice or the Wounded Warrior Project through the funeral home.
