Ruth (Frechette) Bernier

Ruth (Frechette) Bernier, age 98, peacefully entered eternal rest on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Apple Rehab/Shelton Lakes in Shelton. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Bernier. 

Mrs. Bernier was born in Berlin, NH on July 23, 1924, daughter of the late Eli and Margory Page Frechette. Ruth moved to Ansonia in 1958, where she and Eddie raised their three children. Ruth often spoke of the fond memories of growing up in New Hampshire, where she enjoyed sledding and ice skating. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and vacations to Maine and Massachusetts with the Bernier crew. Ruth worked at H.C. Cook Co. in Ansonia and later in the cafeteria at Sikorsky Aircraft, until her retirement. 

She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Brian Bernier (Annie) of Ansonia, daughters, Sharon Bernier of Tallahassee, FL, and Gail Mattutini (Thomas Sr.) of Derby, grandchildren, Ryan Poeta (Kimberly), of Shelton, Brian T. Bernier (Erica) of Bridgeport and Michelle Viebranz (Paul) of Ansonia, great-grandchildren, Leighton and Landon Poeta and Lorien and Elanor Viebranz, four step-grandchildren, Thomas Mattutini (Chris), Wayne Mattutini (Tammy), Debbie Hennessy (John) and Missy Calvert (Eddie), eight step-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and good friend and neighbor, Joan Lynders of Ansonia. She was predeceased by her cherished grandson, Shane W. Poeta, brothers, Albert, Robert and Donald Frechette and sisters, Eleanor Belanger, and Barbara Turner. The family sends a special heart-felt thank you to Noreen, John, and Miriam at Shelton Lakes for their extraordinary care. 

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Wednesday morning, November 23, 2022, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. Her funeral will then proceed to Holy Rosary Church, 10 Father Salemi Drive in Ansonia for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am. Interment will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia.
