Sally (Monahan) Thomas, of Woodbridge, entered into rest on Tuesday October 25, 2011 in CT. Hospice. She was the devoted wife of Dominick J. Thomas, Jr.
Sally was born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late John and Arlene (Newbauer) Monahan and was a resident of Derby, Oxford and Woodbridge for most of her life.
Sally was a graduate of Seton Hall University where she was a member of the “Jello Mold”, and received a master in School Guidance from Long Island University. She was employed as a guidance counselor at Wolcott High School and then Great Oak Middle School for 15 years. She also tutored for several local school districts, was a volunteer teacher at TEAM, and taught CCD at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Woodbridge.
In recent years Sally loved spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren. Sally had a passion for gardening, reading and education, and volunteered much of her free time with the Woodbridge Garden Club, Friends of the Woodbridge Library and the Yale Peabody Museum.
She was the devoted mother of Christopher Thomas and his wife Suzanne, Gregory Thomas and his wife Elizabeth and Scott Thomas and his wife Elizabeth Raposo, loving grandmother of Alana, Evan, Sarah, Lauren (LoLo) and Aiden, sister of Jeanne Cummings, and her late husband John Cummings, and Nancy Micek and her husband Henry, niece of Joseph Newbauer and his wife Joyce, Anita and Tess Newbauer, and Gertrude Monahan .
She leaves behind her devoted canine companion Sammy.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 6 pm at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St. Derby.
Her funeral will leave the funeral home on Monday at 9 am for a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Assumption, 75 Center Rd., Woodbridge at 10 am. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery.
