Salvatore A. Scarpa

Salvatore A. Scarpa, age 92 of Derby, entered into eternal rest on October 10, 2012 at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Mildred Mary (DiRienzo); his wife of 63 years.

Salvatore was born in Derby on March 12, 1920 to the late Joseph and Marietta (Crocamo) Scarpa. He lived with his family in Shelton, and later had the distinction of serving his country with the US Navy in WWII. During his heroic service, Salvatore was stationed in the Pacific. Salvatore, a talented toolmaker, owned and operated the former Harmac Industries until his retirement 20 years ago. He had a very quick mind and often spent his time reading and working on puzzles.

Salvatore is the father of Michael Scarpa and the brother of William and Rita Scarpa. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Salvatore was predeceased by siblings Florence Perotti, Daniel, Louis, Joseph, and Gabriele Scarpa.

On Saturday, friends and family are invited directly to St. Mary’s Church, Derby for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. Memorial contributions may be left in Salvatore’s name to the The Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital, 130 Division St., Derby, CT 06418.

The Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 235 Elizabeth Street, Derby was entrusted with his funeral arrangements.
