Salvatore Guido “Lefty” Manzone, 87, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday evening, September 1, 2012, at Shelton Lakes/Apple Rehab in Shelton.
He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Jane Fiorello Manzone.
Mr. Manzone was born in Derby on January 15, 1925, son of the late Salvatore and Pasqualina Pergola Manzone. A lifelong resident of Ansonia, he began his career in construction, later was employed at the Farrel Corporation, and retired from the Ansonia Board of Education, where he worked in the Maintenance Dept.
A proud veteran, he honorably served during World War II, in the U.S. Navy.
Sal was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia, a member of its Catholic Men’s Club, and volunteered at the annual Italian Festa.
He was a member and served as President and Past Commander at V.F.W. Post 597 in Ansonia and was also a member of the St. Sebastian Men’s Club in Ansonia.He is survived by two daughters, Laura A. Manzone and her husband Ron Wilson of Waterbury and Elaine M. Zito and her husband Guy of Oxford, a brother, George Manzone and his wife Sandra of Beacon Falls, two sisters, Mary Kopasz and her husband Joseph of Shelton and Nancy Nimons and her husband Harold of Ansonia, cherished granddaughter, Christianne Zito of Oxford, sister in law, Adele Manzone of Ansonia, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by a son, Anthony J. Manzone, a brother, Paul Manzone, and a sister, Domenica Faiella.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Friday September 7, 2012, at 8:15 a.m. from the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia.
Interment with U.S. Navy military honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Shelton.
Visiting hours will be held on THURSDAY from 4 – 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Holy Rosary Church Organ Fund or the Muscular Dystrophy Association through the funeral home.
