Salvatore L. Aconfora

Salvatore L. Aconfora, age 87, entered into eternal rest on December 30, 2021, at CT Hospice in Branford.

He was the beloved husband of sixty-one years to Celeste Gabriel Aconfora. Sal was born in Derby on October 2, 1934, son of the late Louis and Anna Cosciello Aconfora.

He was a lifelong resident of Derby until moving to North Haven in 2007 and N. Branford in 2020. Sal, along with his father, owned and operated Ann’s Gift Shop in Derby for many years.

After selling the store, he managed the former Little Red Shoe House in Ansonia and North Haven and eventually retired from Bob’s Stores in Hamden. Following his retirement, Sal was a dedicated funeral assistant at Spinelli-Ricciuti Funeral Home in Ansonia. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the U.S. Navy.

Sal was an active member of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia, a member of its Catholic Men’s Club, and worked tirelessly in the kitchen each year at the annual Italian festival. He was also a member of the Sons of Italy Valley Lodge and the Adriatic Marchegian Club both in Derby.

Above all, Sal was kind, fun to be around, personable, a gentleman, true family man and a good friend you could always count on.

In addition to his wife Celeste, he leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Deborah McEvoy (Edward) of North Haven and Doreen Castaldi (Bruno) of North Branford, grandchildren, Ryan McEvoy (Cara) of Guilford, Kailee McMillan (Brian) of North Haven, Kori McEvoy (Scott Bonfanti) of Woburn, MA, Jesse Castaldi (Jennifer Calise) of East Haven, Nikolas Castaldi and Gianna Castaldi of North Branford, great-grandchildren, Tess McMillan and Benjamin McEvoy as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Ann Aconfora.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at 11:00 am, meeting directly at Holy Rosary Church, 10 Father Salemi Drive in Ansonia for a Mass of Christian Burial. Masks are required in church. Due to Covid health concerns, there will be no public visiting hours.

His entombment preceded by committal prayers and U.S. Navy military honors in Mt. St. Peter Mausoleum will privately take place. A celebration of Sal’s life will be held when we can all safely gather and will be announced by the family.
