Salvatore M. Aquila

Salvatore M. Aquila, 88, of Seymour, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday morning, March 28, 2015, at CT Hospice in Branford. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Pagliaro Aquila.

Mr. Aquila was born in Ansonia on July 14, 1926, son of the late Joseph and Anna Sorce Aquila. A resident of Seymour since 1965, he was employed at the former B.F. Goodrich in Shelton for 28 years and later at Sikorsky Aircraft until his retirement in 1988. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Korean War. He was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia and a member of its Catholic Men’s Club and St. Joseph Men’s Society. Sal was an avid bowler and diehard fan of the NY Mets, NY Jets and the UConn Huskies. He was a great cook known for his famous Sicilian Pizza” and loved to sing, especially Italian Opera.

He is survived by a loving son, Anthony J. Aquila (Kathleen) of Fairfield, two loving daughters, Sharon Cipows (George) of Seymour and Barbara Saggese (Paul) of Trumbull, a brother, Peter Aquila (Agnes) of Seymour, a sister, Mary Ann Groves (Thomas) of Seymour, seven cherished grandchildren, Crystal Richard (Bruce), Lindsay Richard (Peter), Ryan Cipows, Nicholas and Trevor Saggese, Alexandra and Michael Aquila, three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Cameron Richard and Jemma Richard and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday March 31, 2015, from 4 – 7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Wednesday, his funeral will take place at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Interment with U.S. Marine military honors will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.
