Samuel P. Mezzatesta

Samuel P. Teppy” Mezzatesta, 92, entered into eternal rest on June 28, 2016, at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Rose Marra Mezzatesta.

Mr. Mezzatesta was born in Ansonia on Oct. 23, 1923, son of the late Salvatore and Amelia Romano Mezzatesta. He was employed as the deli supervisor at First National Supermarkets until his retirement. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the U.S. Army during WW 2, and participated in the Normandy Invasion. Sam was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church and a member of St. Sebastian Men’s Club in Ansonia and the former St. Michael Men’s Society of Ansonia. He was an avid fan of Ansonia Charger football, UConn women’s basketball, NY Giants and the NY Yankees.

He is survived by loving sons, Salvatore P. Mezzatesta (Catherine) of Virginia Beach, VA and Joseph A. Mezzatesta of Naugatuck, a brother, Alfred Mezzatesta (Anne) of Ansonia, grandchildren, Kelly Sheppard (Ryan) of NJ, Rose Mezzatesta of VA, Phillip Mezzatesta (Kathy) of DE and Patrick McEnerney (Mary) of Seymour, great-grandchildren, Alexander and Damien McEnerney and Riley and Aidan Sheppard, aunts, Susan Gutosky and Helen Mezzatesta of Ansonia and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Mezzatesta.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday July 1, 2016, from 4 – 8 PM in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Saturday, his funeral will commence at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Interment with U.S. Army military honors will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery.
