Samuel Pacowta died peacefully on October 13, 2013 in Port Charlotte, FL with his wife and family by his side.
A native of Shelton, Sam was born on August 30, 1922 to Alex, and Mary Dkjkie Pacowta.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Helen Osuch Pacowta, two sons, Don Pacowta, and his wife Belinda, Tom Pacowta, and his companion, Loredana Fillipps, and his daughter Chris Twerion and her husband Dan. Sam has four grandchildren, Kelly Iacovacci, and her husband Mike, Lisa Pacowta, Don Twerion, and Steve Twerion and his fiance Jessica Sarnecky. He is also survived by his sisters Mary Saroka, Mildred Piotrowski,and Dorothy Mercurio. He was predeceased by his sisters, Anna Serfilippi, and Julia Dubasek,and brothers, Michael Pacowta, Wally Pacowta, and John Pacowta. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Sam was educated in the Shelton School System, and served in the US Army 88th Division Infantry, two years of which in North Africa, and Italy during WWII, and retired from the International Operating Engineers, Local 30 at the former Alexander’s Department Store of MIlford at the age of 62. Sam was a member of the Shelton Senior Citizen Center, The American Legion Sutter-Terlizzi Post # 16 in Shelton, and the Russian American Club of Shelton. Born and raised on a farm in Shelton Sam continued his love of gardening well into his late 80’s He moved to Florida three years ago to enjoy his final years in the Sunshine State. He will be missed by his family and his faithful, furry dog, Lucky.
Friends may greet his family on Thursday from 4 to 7 PM in the Riverview Funeral Home 390 River Road Shelton. On Friday his funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:45 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph Church Shelton. Burial with full military honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery Shelton.
