Samuel Procopio Draco, age 76, of Derby, entered into rest on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. He is the beloved husband of 47 years of Anna Maria (Varano) Procopio.
Samuel was born in Isca Sullo Ionio in the Calabria region of Italy on November 10, 1948, son of the late Pasquale and Rosina (Scicchitano) Procopio. He came to the United States in 1956 where he lived with his family in Bridgeport, and lived in Derby for the past 35 years.
Samuel served in the United States Army. He later worked as an Insurance Appraiser in the automotive industry. Samuel loved playing and watching tennis. He enjoyed golf, reading the Reader’s Digest and Consumer Reports magazine, and working in his yard. He also loved listening to traditional Italian music. He always took great pride in helping and supporting his children, whether helping with homework or rides to baseball practice, Samuel wanted to make sure that his children had all the tools they needed to succeed.
He is the beloved father of Rosella DiBianco (John) and Joseph Procopio (Celina Marin Procopio), and proud grandfather of Jayden Procopio. He is also survived by his brother, Vincent Procopio, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Samuel was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Ralph Procopio, and two sisters, Titiana Procopio and Mary Forish.
Friends may greet the family at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street, Derby on Thursday from 5 to 7 PM. On Friday his procession will leave the parlor at 9:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael’s Church in Derby. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.
