Sebastian Cannata, 93, entered into eternal rest on August 27, 2016, at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Frolish Cannata.
Mr. Cannata was born in Ansonia on Dec. 5, 1922, son of the late Sebastian and Susan Lanteri Cannata. A lifelong resident of the Ansonia community, he began his working career at Farrel Corp. in Ansonia and later was the owner of the former Main Delicatessen in Ansonia. Seb retired as the Assistant Director of the Ansonia Senior Center. He was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church and a member of its Catholic Men’s Club. Seb was well-known throughout the Valley as being an organizer of excursions to CT and Las Vegas casinos. He enjoyed dancing, horse racing and was an avid fan of the NY Yankees.
He is survived by a loving and devoted daughter, Susan M. Cannata Horelick of Seymour, cherished grandchildren, Lisa Horelick of North Haven and Nicholas Horelick Jr. of Seymour, great-granddaughter, Dakota Horelick of Seymour and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son in law, Nicholas Horelick Sr. and sisters, Anna Vacca, Violet Lloyd, Jane Conroy and Minnie Dube.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday August 30, 2016, from 5 – 7 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Wednesday, his funeral will commence at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Interment will immediately follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.
