Shane W. Poeta, 37, a fourteen year resident of Lehigh Acres, Florida, formerly of Derby, entered into eternal rest on July 2, 2012, at Smilow Cancer Center in New Haven, following a short, valiant battle with Angiosarcoma.
Shane was born in Derby on August 24, 1974, loving son of William & Donna Poeta Jr. of Old Lyme and Thomas & Gail Bernier Mattutini Sr. of Derby. He was employed as a cable splicer for Volt Communications in Florida. Shane enjoyed fishing, boating and cooking for his family. He was an avid NY Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan and will be remembered for his laugh and smile.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Ryan E. Poeta (Kimberly) of Shelton, maternal grandmother, Ruth Frechette Bernier of Ansonia, paternal grandparents, William L. and Joan Golino Poeta Sr. of Ansonia, half-sister, Devon Poeta of Providence, RI, special step-brothers, Thomas P. Mattutini Jr. (Chris) of Oxford and Wayne Mattutini (Tammy) of Seymour, special step-sisters, Debbie Hennessy (John) of Seymour and Missy Calvert (Eddie) of Derby, uncle, Brian Bernier (Annie) of Ansonia, aunts, Sharon Bernier of KY, Lisa Bowe of Ansonia, and Christine Ciepiela (Mike) of Ansonia, cherished niece, Leighton Poeta, cherished nephew, Landon Poeta, devoted friends and extended family in Florida, Mickey and Tracy Martin, numerous step nieces, step nephews, cousins, friends, and canine buddy Lizzy. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Edward Bernier.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Shane’s funeral service and celebration of his life on Friday July 6, 2012, at 10:00 am (PLEASE MEET DIRECTLY) at Seymour Evangelical Baptist Church, 104 Mountain Road, Seymour, CT. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 5 – 8 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia.
