Shirley Marie Mester Chromik, age 91, of Seymour, entered into eternal rest peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Shady Knoll Health Care. Her beloved husband the late Martin R. Chromik, Sr. was a former Derby High School Teacher and Principal. She was born in Derby, CT on July 29, 1924, the daughter of the late John C. and Alice Clark Mester.
Shirley was employed by Sponge Rubber Products as well as Griffin Hospital. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt and special thank you to the entire staff at Shady Knoll Health Care, for all of their excellent care and support. Shirley will be sadly missed by all and will forever remain in our hearts.
Shirley’s family includes her three daughters Shirley (Rick) Jacobsen of Beacon Falls, Barbara (Philip) Fritz of Seymour, and Patricia (James) Comkowycz of Bradenton,Fl., two sons Martin (Mary) Chromik, Jr. of Naugatuck and Richard (Heidi) Chromik of Tolland, a brother Joseph Mester of Derby, seventeen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and her lifelong best friend Genevieve Gould Gilbert of New Fairfield.
A Funeral Service in Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held on Saturday, July 2 , 2016 at 9:30 am in the Chapel of the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street, (RT 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 am at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 25 Maple Ave, Beacon Falls. Interment in the family plot will follow at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 8:30 am to 9:30 am.
Memorial gifts in Shirley’s memory may be made to St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, through the funeral home.
