Stephen R. “Tippy” Norko, age 85 of Shelton, beloved husband of the late Ozella Shropshire Norko, passed away December 16, 2014 at Gardner Heights Health Care Center, Shelton.
Stephen was born in Bridgeport, December 31, 1928, son of the late Stephen and Anna Menovsky Norko. Stephen served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and worked as a highly valued tool maker for Sikorsky Aircraft of Stratford for 43 years until his retirement.
Tippy will also be remembered for his passion of big band, country music, playing the steel guitar, and his love of artistry.
Over the years, Tippy showed his love of sports through playing and coaching baseball and golf. He was also an avid gardener and many enjoyed the fruits of his labor.
Tippy is survived by his daughter (his pride and joy), Mary Lee DiCaro and her husband Sal of N. Springfield, VT; his sons, Richard Norko and his wife Leslee of Shelton, Stephen Norko of Bridgeport, Thomas and Joseph Norko of Ansonia; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Tippy was predeceased by his sisters, Betty Pekar and Marge O’Hara; and his brothers, Lindy, John, Bill, and Eddie Norko.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, December 18th from 5 to 8 P.M. in the James T. Toohey & Son Funeral Home, 92 Howe Ave., Shelton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 19th at 10 A.M. directly at St. Margaret Mary Church, 50 Donovan Lane, Shelton. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
