Tekla Hemingway

Tekla Hemingway, age 95, of Seymour, and formerly of Shelton entered in to rest on Saturday September 22, 2012 in the Shady Knoll Nursing Center. She was the devoted wife of the late Irving Hemingway, Sr.

Mrs. Hemingway was born in Derby on February 11, 1917 daughter of the late Asafat and Mary (Basiliga) Comcowich and was a Shelton resident for most of her life. She was employed as a nurse at the former Laurel Heights Convalescent Home in Shelton, and also worked as a private duty nurse.

She is the beloved mother of Margaret DiGiacomo and her husband John, David Hemingway and his wife Nancy, and the late Irving Hemingway, Jr. She is the sister of Andrew Comcowich. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and son she is predeceased by 3 brothers John, Michael, and Pete Comcowich, and 3 sisters Ann Bodyk, Elizabeth Comcowich, and Dorothy Ziemba.

Friends may greet her family on Wednesday from 9:30 to10:30 AM in the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home 253 Elizabeth Street Derby. Her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:45 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Michael’s Church. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery.
