Tekla Zanowiak

Tekla Zanowiak, age 92 of Shelton, beloved wife of the late Stefan Zanowiak, died peacefully on January 22, 2022 in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side. 

Born in Rychwald, Gorlice, Poland on July 2, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Orest and Antonina Dokla Kowal. Mrs. Zanowiak immigrated to the U.S. in 1962 settling in Shelton and worked at the Empire Works Co. of Shelton for many years until her retirement. She was a parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Ansonia. 

For the last 29 years, Mrs. Zanowiak lived with her son and family — it was her greatest joy to be a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her devoted son, John S. (Helen) Zanowiak of Shelton; cherished grandchildren, Jennifer (Adrian) Proetti of NY, John S. Zanowiak of Shelton, and Michael P. Zanowiak of NY; her precious great-grandson, Darius Proetti; as well as many nieces and nephews in the United States, Ukraine and Poland. 

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by sisters, Maryna Kowal Hutnyk, Olena Kowal Pysarchyk, Zofia Kowal Kobasiar, Anna Kowal Zanowiak; and brothers, Michael, Ivan, Stefan and Petro Kowal. Funeral services will take place on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 9:00 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM in Sts. Peter and Paul Church, 105 Clifton Ave., Ansonia. Springtime interment will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Derby. 

Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM; Panikhida at 6:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sts. Peter and Paul Preservation Fund. Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
