Thomas J. Simanavage, age 87, longtime resident of Ansonia, entered into rest on Saturday, April 4, 2020 in the Jewish Home, Bridgeport.
He was the devoted husband of the late Charlotte (Jennings) Simanavage. He was born in Pottsville, PA on November 5, 1932, son of the late John and Anna (Stusalitis) Simanavage.
After serving in the Navy, Tom moved to Connecticut and worked as a hydraulic technician at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, CT for over 43 years until his retirement.
Tom loved reading books, gardening and fishing. He was also very proud of his Lithuanian heritage.
He is the beloved father of Charlotte Evanko, Susan Goncalves and her husband Daniel, Ellen MacDonald and John Simanavage and his wife Maria, loving grandfather of Daniel and wife Nicole Goncalves, James Goncalves, Alan and Natalie Katrenya, Adam MacDonald, Matthew Evanko and Joseph Simanavage. He is also survived by Annmarie and Joe Burns, Janet and Ken Stoppi as well as several nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania. He was predeceased by a brother who died prior to Tom’s birth.
Special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at the Jewish Senior Services who cared for Tom the last few years of his life.
In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions can be made to the Charlotte (Jennings) Simanavage Nurse Caring Memorial Award at the Davis and Henley College of Nursing, Sacred Heart University, University Advancement, 5151 Park Avenue,Fairfield, CT 06825, which provides an annual award to a graduating nursing student.
Due to the current pandemic health crisis a mass of Christian burial will be held in St. Michael Church, 75 Derby Ave Derby at a date to be announced.
Private family burial was held in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery. Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St. Derby are entrusted with the arrangements.
