Thomas Richard Larkin left us on April 7, 2013 with grace, humor, reconciliation and dignity, at home in Boston, Massachusetts in hospice with his family by his side. He was 82.
Born at Griffin Hospital in Derby, Connecticut on August 19, 1930, third child of Frank Larkin and Rose Burns, Tom was athletic and handsome. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1948 and played very briefly with the New York Knickerbockers before being cut pre-season.
Tom served in the Air Force for four years during the Korean war, stationed in Germany as an MP. In 1955 he married Patricia Ann O’Reilly of Bridgeport. They subsequently had three daughters, divorcing in 1965. After many years of sobriety through AA, Tom was able to remarry the love of his life in 1982. They were happy together again, traveling the USA north, south, east and west, many times to Ireland, and even to Costa Rica. He and Pat always had dogs and cats by their side.
Patricia preceded her husband in death on August 5, 2012. Tom maintained his sobriety for more than 40 years, proud of his AA chips.
Tom leaves behind his sister Marie Dunn, daughters Tara, Seana and Monica Larkin, nephews Frances, Kevin, Michael and Daniel Larkin, nieces Joanne T and Karen Dunn, sister-in-law Pauline Larkin, stepson Andre Middlebrook, five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
His ashes, along with Patricia’s, have been scattered over the Naugatuck Valley.
