Verlene M. Pickstone

Verlene M. Pickstone, age 75 of Shelton, beloved wife of the late James W. Pickstone, passed away January 22, 2017 at Griffin Hospital, Derby. 

Verlene was born in Bridgeport, July 8, 1941, daughter of the late Leon B. Morin, Jr. and Natalie Shephard Morin. 

During her life, Verlene worked various jobs including a blueprint and mailroom clerk at Avco Lycoming, a secretary and bookkeeper at Del’s Collision Center, and a welder for MPI. She also was an art director for Strawberry Tyme Nursery School, an assistant director for Honey Bear Nursery School, and operated a daycare from her residence for many years. 

She volunteered for many organizations including the Golden Hill Senior Center, TEAM Inc., Toys for Tots, the Wilderness Program for Dropout Kids, and the Valley Heart Club where she was a Past President. She was also a parishioner of Holy Cross Church of Fairfield since 1956. She is survived by her daughter, Dwana Pickstone-Dasilva and her companion Daniel; grandchildren, Brendan Kiley, Megan Daniels and her husband Zachary, and Briana Kiley; great granddaughter, Nora Marie Daniels; nephew, Daren Morin-Reid; niece, Laurinda Marie Morin-Hein; and sister-in-law, Linda Morin-Reid. She was predeceased by her daughter, Darlene Pickstone; and brothers, Leon B. Morin, III and Capt. Wesley Morin. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday directly at Holy Cross Church, 750 Tahmore Dr., Fairfield at 11 AM. Inurnment will follow at Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery, Derby.
