Victor P. Cook, Jr.

Victor P. Cook, Jr., age 78, of Shelton entered into rest on Friday Sept. 5, 2014 in Yale-New Haven Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Lou Cicia Cook.

He was born in Shelton on April 14, 1936, son of the late Victor P. Cook, Sr. and Mary Husti Cook and was a lifelong Shelton resident.

Victor was a member of the Shelton High School graduating class of 1954. While at SHS, he was proud to be apart of the 1952 Class M State Championship Basketball Team. 

After graduating from SHS, Victor went in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed for three years in France and Germany as a member of the 38th Air Police Squadron.

Victor retired in 2001 as the Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Shelton after 32 years of employment. 

He was a long time member of Highland Golf Club. He started to caddy at Highland in 1944 when most of the golf clubs had names on the club heads not numbers. As a golfer he described his game in a baseball term, “ I hit more fly balls than grounders”.

He is survived by his daughter Kimberley Cook, his cousins Leon and Barbara Sylvester, III, nieces Melissa (Trond) Fletcher and their beautiful children, Aiden and Vienne; Christen (Ben) Perry and their beautiful daughters, Sophia and Gabriella and his nephew Leon Tight Lines” Sylvester IV; his sister Rosemary Whitehurst and his nephew Marcus (Debbie) Whitehurst and their daughter Kelly.

Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd. Shelton. His funeral services and burial will be private.
