Vilma Rueda

Vilma Rueda, age 89, entered into peaceful rest on June 9, 2022, at Griffin Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Roberto Rueda. 

Mrs. Rueda was born in Managua, Nicaragua on September 1, 1932, daughter of the late Matilde and Alicia Mercado. A resident of Derby since 1969, she was employed as a seamstress for the former Yale Furniture in Milford and Uniroyal in Naugatuck, until her retirement. Vilma was an elegant, strong-willed independent woman. She enjoyed traveling, flower gardening, cooking and loved animals. She even had an ocelot and a spider monkey! 

She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Isidro Rueda and his wife Stavroula of Bunnell, FL, a daughter, Margiavanessa Acosta and her husband Anibal of Waterbury, grandchildren, Crystal Poole of Naugatuck, Robert Poole of NC, Anastasia Rueda of MA, John Robert Rueda of CT, Kelly Dripchak of Cromwell and Edward Dripchak of Ansonia, great-grandchildren, Justin, Julianna, Sebastian, Nathan and Grayson as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Lucia Dripchak, grandson, David Poole, brothers, Milo Mercado and Roberto Gomez and sister, Nelly. 

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family and pay their respects on Thursday, June 16, 2022, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 11:00 am, a funeral service in celebration of Vilma’s life will take place with Deacon Victor Lembo officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Saint Peter Cemetery in Derby.
