Vincent A. Vizzo, Sr., age 75, of Stratford and formerly of Derby, entered into eternal rest on January 7, 2011 at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Cathy (Collins) Vizzo.
Vinny was born on January 22, 1935 in Bridgeport, son of the late Anthony and Caroline (LaPia) Vizzo and was a resident of Derby before moving to Stratford over 25 years ago.
He was a supernumary police officer for the city of Derby for over 25 years, retiring in 2009. He was currently the Director of the Office of Emergency Management for the City of Derby.
He also started the volunteer police bike patrol in Derby.
Vinny also worked for the First National Supermarket for 46 years, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of Hotchkiss Hose and was a former cub master at the Housatonic Council of Boy Scouts at St. Jude Church.
He enjoyed amateur radio and loved to cook.
Besides his wife, Cathy, Vinny is survived by his sons, Thomas Vizzo, Sr. and his wife, Annmaria, Vincent Vizzo, Jr. and Paul Vizzo, step-daughter, Carole Collins, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Louis Vizzo.
Memorial calling hours will be held on Monday, Jan. 10, 2011 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby.
