Virginia H. Aho, age 81, of Shelton, entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 17th, 2023 surrounded by her loving family in her home. She was the devoted wife of the late Aarre Aho for 59 years. Virginia was born on March 28, 1941, in New York City, the daughter of the late Philip and Anna (Hyvönen) Ramos, and lived in Shelton for 63 years.
Virginia was very humble and regarded as the neighborhood den mother. Home was her haven and comfort zone. She made contributions to many charities and was a tireless laborer which was a fortunate quality as the mother of 11. As if that was not hard enough, she extended herself beyond family and was always willing to serve others. This gift made her an unparalleled host. She was willing always to entertain church functions and welcomed countless guests of her many children as though they were her own, over the years.
When there were fewer children at home, she enjoyed a short career as a house cleaner.
Virginia is survived by her children Aarre Aho (Ellen), Aaron Aho, Danial Aho, Faith Mytty, Nathaniel Aho (Heidi), Naomi DeBiase (Richard), Benjamin Aho (Maria), Matthew Aho (Leena), Kevin Aho, James Aho, and Leilani Betz (Aaron). Virginia is also survived by her brothers Michael and Gary plus sisters, Judy and Lois, as well as 54 beloved grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren. Besides her husband, Virginia is predeceased by her grandchildren Justin Aho and Jaclyn Aho.
Friends may greet the family on Tuesday, March 21st from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. Her funeral service will begin at 2pm in the funeral home.
