William H. Wilkerson, age 82, of Shelton, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, April 27, 2013.
A longtime resident of Connecticut, William was born on March 8, 1931 in Oriente Province, Cuba, to Tabold Wilkerson and Maria Adele Wilkerson.
He lived, studied and worked in Jamaica, West Indies and New York.
After studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, he went on to establish a textile design company in Jamaica, which distinguished itself with multi-colored, silk-screened designs of tropical flora, fauna and seascapes.
In 1976, he settled permanently in Connecticut with his wife, the late Florence Kelly Wilkerson, where he continued to produce textile designs and paintings that reflected his love of nature.
William is remembered by his brother and sister-in-law Winston and Carmen Wilkerson; children Sharon, Charmaine and Christopher; grandsons Jonathan and Evan Cokely; beloved nephews and nieces and cherished in-laws who were both family and friends to him.
