William L. Ives, Sr., 86 of Ansonia, Conn., died at Ephrata Community Hospital, Ephrata, PA on Sept. 30, 2011.
William was born on May 13, 1925, the son of the late Newall A. and Dorothea Euerle Ives of Oxford, Conn.
He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Doris Waters Ives, for whom he lovingly cared for at home, until her passing. William was a dairy farmer in Oxford before serving in Korea during that war. He was employed as a draftsman/ designer for Farrell Corp. and LFE in Hamden.
A graduate of Central Conn. State Univ., he also served as a schoolteacher. He served on the Ansonia School Board for many years, was a member of the local Republican Committee, and assisted Cub Scout Pack 12 of Ansonia and Boy Scout Troop 3 of Derby.
He stayed very active until his recent illness and had many interests and talents, the most cherished of which was cooking, at which he excelled. He is survived by sons William Ives, M.D. of Ephrata, PA, Thomas Ives of Farmington, CT, John Ives of Phoenix, AZ, and Robert Ives of Plantsville, CT; and 8 grandchildren: Keri, Kathryn, and Megan of Farmington; Tatiana and Nicholas of Suwanee, GA; and Sarah, William III, and Celia Ruth of Ephrata.
He was predeceased by his parents while young and all of his step-brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 6th at 11:00 a.m. from Oxford United Church of Christ Congregational. Burial will follow in Southford Cemetery, Oxford.
