William O. Mooney, Sr.

William O. Mooney, Sr., age 85, of Shelton, entered to rest on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, in his home. He was the beloved husband of Geraldine Jerri” (Brzoska) Mooney. William was born in Derby on March 14, 1939, son of the late James and Mary (Hellauer) Mooney, and lived in Shelton most of his life.

He graduated from Fairfield Prep Class of 56 and proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps. He spent many years traveling the world selling ultrasound equipment before joining the Shelton Highway and Bridges Department, where he worked for over 25 years before his retirement.

Bill enjoyed golf and loved hunting and fishing. He kept a hunting camp in Vermont and loved to spend time with his Vermont friends. He was very mechanically inclined and enjoyed working on cars.

He is the cherished father of William O. Mooney, Jr. Brian J. Mooney and his wife Ursa, Gary Harkins, and was the proud grandfather of Vela Mooney. He also leaves a brother, James Mooney, and was predeceased by a sister, MaryJane Dunn.

Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM. On Thursday his procession will leave the parlor at 9:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 Am at St. Joseph Church. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Mt. St. Peters Garden Mausoleum in Derby.
