William “Red” G. Clynch—Former Derby Alderman

William Red” G. Clynch, age 80, entered into rest on Monday, September 30, 2013 in South Bend, Indiana. 

Red was born in Derby on September 25, 1933, son of the late William and Mary (Crowley) Clynch, and was a lifelong Derby resident.

He worked for United Illuminating for over 42 years before his retirement. 

Red was a former Derby Alderman and served as the Derby Parks Commissioner for many years. 

He was a member of the Elks, the Knights of Columbus, and the Derby and Ansonia Senior Centers. 

Red was very involved in youth sports in Derby, and he coached little league softball, biddy basketball and CYO basketball for many years. 

He also coached women’s slowpitch softball for 25 years, and was inducted into the CT Softball Hall of Fame in 2004.

Red was an avid follower of Notre Dame football, and he served as an usher at Notre Dame home games for the past 10 years.

He is the beloved uncle of Maryann Bisaccia and her husband Mark, Joseph Papeika and his wife Trish, and Thomas Papeika and his wife Helen. 

He also leaves four great-nephews, Andrew, Matthew, Stephen, and Kevin, and three great-nieces, Katie, Meaghan, and Mary. He was predeceased by his sister, Rosemary Papeika.
