William S. Matto

William S. Matto, 60, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday June 1, 2014, at the Vitas Hospice Unit in St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury following a short illness.

Bill was born in Derby on May 12, 1954, son of the late James J. Matto Sr. and Josephine Yacobacci Doerr. He was a lifelong resident of Ansonia before moving to Beacon Falls four years ago. Bill was employed as the superintendent of Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia since 2000 where he served with dedication and pride. He had a soft spot for animals, enjoyed watching documentaries and was a huge supporter of St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Marie Matto-Rodriguez of Ansonia, grandchildren, Haley Matto, Carly Bomba and Angel Rodriguez all of Ansonia, friends Katherine Warren and her daughter Mary Beth of New York and several cousins and other friends. Bill is also survived by his best friend, Joseph Christiano, of Beacon Falls, who was always there for him these past few years and most importantly the past few months as he struggled with day to day activities. Bill trusted and relied on Joe and felt that Joe was the son that he never had. He was predeceased by brothers, Dennis and James Matto.

Visiting will be held on Wednesday June 4, 2014, from 9 until 10 am in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. At 10:00 am, his funeral will process to Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby where an informal graveside service will be held with friends and relatives sharing their memories of Bill.
