Winnifred M. McMahon

Winnifred Winnie” M. McMahon, R.N., age 87 of Derby, wife of the late James T. McMahon, passed away December 9, 2013 at the Jewish Home for the Elderly, Fairfield.

Winnie was born in New York, NY March 7, 1926, daughter of the late John and Margaret (McDonald) O’Keefe and grew up in Madison, CT and then lived in Derby for over 50 years.

She was a graduate of St. Raphael’s Nursing School, New Haven, class of 1947 and was a Pediatric Nurse for over 30 years in Griffin Hospital, Derby until her retirement. Winnie and her late husband James were loyal parishioners of St. Jude Church since its conception in the city of Derby. She was an avid fan of the UConn Basketball teams and had close friends that she kept up relationships with during her lifetime because she felt when you have a true friend, you treasure them for life.

She is survived by her sons, James T. McMahon (Teresa) of New Milford, John J. McMahon (Ellen) of Newtown, and Mark F. McMahon (Deborah) of Naugatuck; and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by three infant children, Patricia Anne, William, and Thomas McMahon; brother John O’Keefe; and sister Theresa Gross.

On Saturday December 14, friends are invited to go directly to St. Jude Church, Derby for a Mass of Christian Burial at noon. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery, Derby. Calling hours will be held Thursday December 12 (TODAY) from 3 – 8 P.M. in the JAMES T. TOOHEY & SON FUNERAL HOME, 92 HOWE AVE, SHELTON.
