Ansonia Hosts National Day Of Prayer Event May 7

Valley residents are invited to answer the call of prayer on Thursday, May 7, in observance of the 64th annual National Day of Prayer at 6 p.m., at the Ansonia Veteran’s Memorial Park, located next to Ansonia City Hall at 253 Main St.

This is the Judeo-Christian expression of the NDP, and all are welcome.

The National Day of Prayer affords residents the opportunity to join together in prayer with those church leaders and laymen who will be leading in prayer for the Government, Military, Media, Business/Economy, Education, Church, Family, and Israel.

It is an unprecedented opportunity to see the Lord’s healing and renewing power made manifest as we call on citizens to humbly come in faith before His throne.

The theme for 2015 is Lord, Hear Our Cry,” emphasizing the need for individuals, corporately and individually, to place their faith in the unfailing character of their Creator, who is sovereign over all governments, authorities, and men.

The theme verse is 1 Kings 8:28: Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day.”

President Harry Truman designated the first National Day of Prayer in 1952. The event was designated for the first Thursday in May by President Ronald Reagan.

President Reagan, on the occasion of the 1982 National Day of Prayer, remarked that prayer has sustained our people in crisis, strengthened us in times of challenge, and guided us through our daily lives since the first settlers came to this continent. Our forbearers came not for gold, but mainly in search of God and the freedom to worship in their own way.” He also stated: If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a Nation gone under.”
