Police officers used a Taser and their police dog to subdue a man who allegedly threatened to shoot responding officers.
The man’s name was not available Tuesday, nor were the extent of his injuries, if any.
He was brought to Griffin Hospital to be evaluated.
Charges are pending and will likely be brought through an arrest warrant, police said Tuesday.
Police and ambulance personnel responded to a unit at the condos on Balance Rock Road around noon for what was described as a “psychiatric crisis.”
At first, the man would not come to the door to talk to police. Police decided to “force entry” through the front door using a Halligan tool.
Police at the scene called for another officer to keep an eye on the apartment’s patio side, where there was a sliding glass door.
Things went south when the man allegedly threatened to shoot a police officer. A call for more officers went out.
Then the man allegedly pointed what looked like a shotgun at an officer outside his unit.
Police believe the item was actually an object covered in a towel he pointed toward officers.
A bevy of police officers then came to the condos and set up a perimeter around the unit. They closed off the road as well.
The standoff took about 10 minutes.
The man came out on his patio, at which point a police officer was able to launch a Taser into the man.
The man remained combative, causing police to use their dog.
Police then searched him and determined he did not have a weapon on him.
Griffin Hospital was advised to have their security team ready to meet the man at the emergency room.
