Cassetti Sworn In For Second Term As Ansonia Mayor

Two years ago I stood before you and pledged that Ansonia’s greatest moments are yet to come,” Cassetti said. Today, we are living through one of the most transformational periods in our city’s history. Hand-in-hand, we are building a solid foundation for our future. We have put aside petty politics to move our city forward on a new course. There is a sense that Ansonia’s best days are within our grasp.”

Superior Court Judge Theodore Tyma administered the oath of office before more than 100 supporters in the auditorium. Corporation Counsel John P. Marini served as the inauguration’s master of ceremonies.

Cassetti talked about the ongoing demolition of Ansonia Copper and Brass, providing space needed for economic development; the repurposing of Olson Drive for a new police headquarters; funding of several major infrastructure projects, including reconstruction of Wakelee Avenue and a new transfer station; and reducing taxes for two consecutive years.

Cassetti also pointed to the planned relocation of the Farrel Corp. world headquarters to Fountain Lake Industrial Park as a major achievement during his first term.

Superintendent of Schools Carol Merlone congratulated Cassetti and said she is looking forward to collaborating with re-elected board of education members and one new member to continue helping Ansonia students achieve.

Merlone called Cassetti truly an advocate for our children,” and said students know him well because of the time he spends visiting Ansonia schools.

Also sworn in were members of the Board of Aldermen, the Town and City Clerk, Treasurer, and Sheriffs.

The Ansonia Police Department Color Guard started the ceremony with a Presentation of Colors and members of Boy Scout Troop 105 led the processional.

The Rev. James Sullivan, pastor, Assumption Church, offered the invocation and the Rev. Samuel Levey, pastor, Church of God in Christ, gave the benediction.

Mark Lanzieri sang the The Star-Spangled Banner.”
