Derby High Alum Trying For NCAA Baseball Title

CONTRIBUTEDA Derby High School graduate hopes to help lead his college team to a national baseball championship beginning Friday.

Sal Frosceno Jr., who graduated from Derby High in 2014, is currently a junior at the University of Massachusetts-Boston, where he is a communications major.

He’s also a three-year starter as a center fielder on the Beacons baseball team, which amassed a school-record 37 wins this year en route to winning the Little East Conference and New England regional tournament.

Frosceno’s team will take part in the NCAA Division III College World Series baseball championship in Appleton, Wisc. beginning Friday (May 26) when they take on N. Central Illinois.

Frosceno is the son of Derby Police Lt. Sal Frosceno and his wife, MaryLynn Sheehy Frosceno, who reside in Derby with Sal Jr.’s two sisters, Kayla and Rianna.

In Derby, Frosceno was a standout on a team that won the school’s first league baseball championship since 1958, and was the Class S runner-up with a record team win total. 

While in Derby he earned two-time All-NVL and two-time Class S All State honors.
